SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Excellent size & strength...Great in the box & verse the run...Solid tackler...Physical & tough
WEAKNESSES: One-dimensional...Stiff hips & struggles in coverage...Suspect instincts...Poor senior season
OVERALL: Originally recruited to play receiver, William Moore broke onto the scene with a memorable junior season in 2007, but failed to live up to the expectations as a senior. He redshirted in 2004 and earned six starts over his redshirt freshman and sophomore seasons before becoming the full-time starter at safety as a junior. Moore recorded eight interceptions in 2007 and was named Second Team All-American. However, his lack of elite athleticism stood out as a senior as he struggled to cover the skill players in the Big-12. Moore is outstanding in the box, but really struggles in coverage – late recognition skills, late getting over, stiff hips, and suspect overall instincts. He has very good ballskills as he collected 11 career interceptions over his career, but managed just one as a senior. Moore is very physical and aggressive and will make the big hit. He is a solid tackler and won’t miss a lot of plays. Moore not only struggles covering receivers in the slot, but also athletic tight ends which is a huge red flag. He will take questionable angles to the ballcarrier and needs to drive through the player when making the tackle. Moore is a hard worker and carries good character. He looks the part and has the size of a linebacker and like other prospects in this draft (i.e. Nic Harris) might entertain a switch at the next level. Moore has been banged up over his career, including shoulder and foot problems in 2008, so durability is an issue.
BOTTOM LINE: A disappointing senior season, Moore is a one-dimensional safety who is good verse the run close to the LOS, but has stiff hips to turn and run in coverage – classic boom or bust player.
