SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Excellent athleticism & quickness...Fleet of foot...Good size & frame...Long arms...Nice upside

WEAKNESSES: Unpolished technique & balance...Needs to add bulk & strength...Timid...Lacks stout anchor

OVERALL: A First-Team All-Big East selection as a senior, William Beatty started the past three seasons at left tackle and showed excellent improvement each season after redshirting in 2004. He was a big reason for the FBS leading rusher in Donald Brown this past season. Beatty is a natural athlete with excellent size and frame. He is very lean and needs to add strength and bulk to his body before he is ready for the toughness of the NFL. Beatty is very unpolished at this point in his career and needs a lot of work with his technique, leverage, and overall knowledge of the position before he is NFL-ready. He is fleet of foot and shows excellent mobility. Beatty’s chest is parallel to the ground too often and he needs to show better power at the point of attack and bend at his knees. He has the frame to add 20 more pounds between his upper and lower body. Beatty is pushed back too often at the POA and will struggle against bull rushers. He has minor durability issues as he broke his leg in 2006, but shows no lingering issues from the injury. Beatty shows good hand punch, but doesn’t necessarily appear like he understands how to accurately play with hand technique. He doesn’t play with a mean streak or nastiness that you want to see from an NFL lineman. Beatty shows intriguing upside because he has the athleticism and size that NFL teams covet so teams believe he can develop into a left tackle down the road.

BOTTOM LINE: Beatty has impressive potential because of his raw, natural tools and frame to get bigger, but he isn’t quite NFL-ready and needs to gain more strength and improve his overall technique.
