SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Mammoth size & strength...Wide & powerful base...Excellent drive blocker...Has a mean streak

WEAKNESSES: Poor lateral mobility...Slow, heavy feet...Will miss assignments...Sluggish...Suspect balance

OVERALL: A First-Team All-Big 12 and Third-Team All-American selection as a senior, Phil Loadholt transferred to Oklahoma before the 2007 season from Garden City Community College. He was the big-man on campus (literally) as his size was often the topic of discussion as he started his junior season at left tackle. Loadholt started almost every game the past two seasons for the Sooners so he has excellent in-game experience despite only playing at the FBS-level for two years. He is a large human being with excellent power and is rarely pushed back. Loadholt struggles with lateral quickness and often moves like his feet are in cement. He will struggle against speed rushers and quicker lineman as he will be caught out of position off the snap. Loadholt will get lazy and rely simply on size to engulf defenders and lose focus on his balance and will find himself bending too much at the waist. He does have decent athleticism for a man his size and can get to the second level when blocking. Loadholt is a terrific run blocker because he can easily redirect defenders or drive them out of the play. He is very tough at the POA and easily engulfs defenders. Loadholt will miss assignments and the mental aspect of the position has been questioned. He plays with a bit of a mean streak so he has the attitude to play the position. Loadholt will be restricted to the right side in the NFL and has little chance at being a left tackle at the professional level.

BOTTOM LINE: Loadholt has the natural size that cannot be taught so he does have an NFL future, however, he will be limited to RT because of his heavy feet and how easily he will be beaten by speed.
