SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Explosive first step...Disruptive & relentless...Strong & powerful...Natural athleticism & burst
WEAKNESSES: Tends to be inconsistent...Needs to show better balance & leverage...Durability & age concerns
OVERALL: A First Team All-SEC and All-American defender as a senior, Peria Jerry began his career at Hargrave Military Institute in 2004 before enrolling at Ole Miss. He started six games over his first two seasons with the Rebels and battled through numerous injuries so durability is a slight concern. Jerry collected 14.0 tackles for loss as a junior and was named to the All-SEC Second Team. As a senior, he led the SEC in tackles for loss with 18.0 and earned a school-record four SEC Weekly Awards. Jerry has good, but not great size. He shows excellent strength and will hold his own against the run. Jerry has an extremely explosive first step off the snap and is very disruptive. He will push his way into the pocket and shoot the gap. Jerry keeps his head on a swivel and shows excellent awareness to find the ballcarrier. He is very aggressive and uses his violent hands to overpower linemen and shed blocks quickly. Jerry constantly finds his way to the backfield and has nice acceleration for his size. He is very relentless and will make many plays outside of the pocket and LOS. Jerry needs to play with better balance and leverage as he will be undisciplined too often. He is an older prospect and will be 25 years old as a rookie. Jerry shows great leadership qualities and was voted a team captain. He is always around the ball and gets excellent pressure on the quarterback for a defensive tackle. His work in the classroom has been suspect so his intelligence has been questioned.
BOTTOM LINE: Jerry, who showed great progression over his career, is a relentless and disruptive rusher who will collapse the pocket, but needs to play with better balance & consistency – fringe first rounder.
