SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Excellent feet...Aggressive & nonstop motor...Good experience...Nice tackler & hard hitter

WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite size & strength...Too aggressive at times...Engulfed easily at the POA...FS or SS?

OVERALL: A four year starter, Patrick Chung redshirted in 2004 and made a big impression in 2005 as a RS freshman and earned First-Team Freshman All-America honors as Oregon’s second leading tackler. After garnering All-Pac 10 Honorable Mention honors as a sophomore, he was named a Second-Team All-American in 2007 and entered his name early for the NFL Draft, but changed his mind and returned for his senior season. Chung leaves Eugene with Oregon’s fourth most tackles in school history and started 51 consecutive games for the Ducks. He played both “Rover” and free safety and projects well at both strong and free safety in the NFL. Chung is a natural athlete with excellent quickness and speed. He shows fluid hips and above average coverage ability for a safety. Chung plays with excellent range and displays his outstanding motor and passion on every play. He doesn’t have elite size, but will play bigger than he is and isn’t afraid to throw his body around. Chung can be overaggressive at times and will take too many chances in both coverage and in run support. He is an in the box safety with the toughness to match up with tight ends, but will get lost in traffic and might have a hard time disengaging from blocks in the NFL. Chung shows nice footwork and the ability to turn and run with a slot receiver. He is versatile and has shown the ability to play either safety position and fill in as a nickel cornerback if needed. Chung is in the conversation to be the top safety.

BOTTOM LINE: A four year starter with 51 consecutive starts at Oregon, Chung has an impressive résumé and has the quickness and versatility that NFL teams will love and push his value to the 2nd round.
