SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Swarms to the ball...Hard hitter & looks for contact...Nice instincts & ballskills...VERY tough
WEAKNESSES: Needs to finish...Doesn’t always go for the sure-tackle...Undersized & needs to add bulk
OVERALL: A four-year starter, Louis Delmas is an extremely hard worker and a team-first leader. He doesn’t have ideal size when looking for a hard-nosed safety, but he plays much bigger than he is. Delmas started all 11 games at safety his true freshman season and earned Second Team All-MAC honors. He had good sophomore and junior seasons, but really stepped his game up as a senior earning First Team All-MAC honor, leading the Broncos with 111 tackles and four interceptions. Delmas puts himself in excellent positions to make a play on the pass or the ballcarrier. He carries a mean streak about him and looks for contact when roving the secondary. Delmas is good, but not great man-to-man and has room to improve if asked to cover one-on-one in the slot. He handles bigger tight ends very well and isn’t overwhelmed by the size difference. Delmas will play out of control at times and needs to make sure to keep his technique in mind and wrap up and tackle. He sniffs out the play and shows above average instincts and quickly locates the ballcarrier. Despite his lack of overall size and the hard hits he makes, durability has never really been an issue for Delmas. He has natural leadership qualities (two-time team captain) and takes pride in being the hardest worker on the team. Delmas looks hesitant at times and needs to be more precise when taking angles towards the ballcarrier. He is easily coachable and has a good head on his shoulders.
BOTTOM LINE: Although he might not pass the eye-test, Delmas is the most complete safety in this class and while he is far from Bob Sanders, he possesses a lot of the same qualities.
