SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Excellent athleticism & speed...Much improved hands...Crisp routes...Excellent burst...Tough
WEAKNESSES: Slim frame...Late bloomer...Body catches too much...Needs to add bulk...Very inconsistent
OVERALL: A three year starter, Mohamed Massaquoi was highly recruited out of high school and was among the top five receiver prospects. He made an instant impact as a freshman with a handful of starts and was second on the team in catches. Massaquoi became the starter as a sophomore – the same year Matthew Stafford arrived on campus – and led the Bulldogs in catches. After an average junior season, he had a breakout senior season and earned First Team All-SEC honors after collecting 58 catches, 920 yards, and eight scores, all among the top three in the conference. Massaquoi struggled early on with his focus and hands as he dropped more balls than any other player we have seen in awhile, but really progressed over his career and showed MUCH better hands, catching fastballs from Stafford and cutting down his drops considerably as a senior. He is a natural athlete and looks fluid in and out of his breaks. Massaquoi has decent size, but needs to get stronger and add bulk to match up better in the physical NFL. He runs crisp routes – another area he improved in greatly. Massaquoi won’t break a lot of tackles with his size, but he does have the quickness to create after the catch and take it the distance. He is tough and isn’t afraid to go over the middle. Massaquoi can pluck the ball out of the air, but still has room to improve his consistency catching the ball as he looks too many passes into his body instead of his hands. He is always in the weight room and has stayed healthy.
BOTTOM LINE: Massaquoi, who is a great natural athlete, was a late bloomer, polishing his raw tools over his career and had a breakout senior season - improving his draft stock to be a fringe first day pick.
