SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Nice size & measureables…Athletic with quick feet…Excellent run blocker…Tough & aggressive

WEAKNESSES: Suspect awareness & recognition skills…Tends to play too high…Questionable mental capacity

OVERALL: Perhaps the most hyped player in this draft, Michael Oher is the subject of Michael Lewis’ 2006 best-selling book, The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game. He had a troubling youth without a consistent parental influence and struggled in school. After discovering his situation, Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy took Oher into their home shortly after he enrolled at Briarcrest Christian School. Despite not playing football at Briarcrest until his junior year, he was widely considered the top offensive line prospect out of high school and chose to attend Ole Miss, the Tuohy’s alma mater. Oher has fantastic experience with 47 consecutive starts, including starting 10 games at guard his freshman season before moving to left tackle as a sophomore. He has very good size with long arms and a strong base. Oher has good mechanics, but will play too high at times and needs to keep his hands low. He is extremely athletic for his size and will get to the second level. Oher is explosive at the POA and shows extremely quick and agile feet. He has suspect recognition and awareness skills and will miss assignments. Oher has excellent side-to-side mobility and does a nice job mirroring defenders. He is very physical in run blocking and shows an aggressive mean streak. Oher is a hard worker and hustles until the whistle blows, but many doubt his mental capacity to comprehend his responsibilities at the professional level.

BOTTOM LINE: Oher, who was a finalist for the Outland Trophy and elected an All-American as a junior and senior, is a unique talent with the size and overall athletic ability to play tackle in the NFL.
