SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Very quick & explosive athlete...Elusive...Above average receiver...Tough & physical...Nice vision

WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite strength & power...Won’t break a lot of tackles...Fumbling issue...Feature back?

OVERALL: A two year starter, LeSean McCoy was a true sophomore at Pittsburgh this past season, but spent a year at Milford Academy before becoming a Panther so he was draft eligible. He originally committed to Miami and was considered one of the top prospects in the country before breaking his ankle as a senior in high school. McCoy instantly became the starter as a freshman in 2007 and lined up at quarterback several times as the feature weapon on Pitt’s offense. He was named to the Freshman All-American team, rushing for over 1,300 rushing yards. He surpassed 1,400 rushing yards this past season and improved his touchdown total to 21, being named a unanimous All-Big East First Teamer. McCoy is an explosive runner with outstanding quickness off the edge. He has decent size, but isn’t overly powerful and has room to add strength to his frame. McCoy won’t break a lot of tackles, but he is physical and will lower his shoulder to pick up tough yards. He shows natural instincts and has the vision and patience to find the developing hole and burst through. McCoy is an above average receiver with reliable hands to make the catch away from his body and the field awareness to make something happen after the reception. Durability is a question because of his slim frame and he was dinged up over his college career, but he has shown the toughness to play through injuries as he played in all 25 games over his two-year career at Pitt. McCoy has first round talent.

BOTTOM LINE: A Reggie Bush-like runner, McCoy is an east/west RB with outstanding quickness, athleticism, and receiver intangibles, but does he have the size and consistency to be a feature back?
