SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Outstanding speed...Excellent acceleration & burst...Good hands & focus...Dangerous returner

WEAKNESSES: Still learning WR intangibles...Unpolished route runner...Minor durability concerns...Raw

OVERALL: A two year starter, Jeremy Maclin was a top recruit out of high school, but had a season-ending knee injury as a freshman so he redshirted. In 2006 he set a freshman NCAA record for all-purpose yardage with 2776 total yards and was a First Team All American & Big 12 player. Maclin improved his receiving numbers as a sophomore in 2008 with 102 catches and 13 touchdown catches, earning First Team All-Big 12 honors again. He is a phenomenal athlete with exciting speed. Maclin shows excellent acceleration downfield and doesn’t slow down. He has an explosive burst off the line and it doesn’t take him long to reach his top gear. Maclin was extremely productive in college, but played in a pass-happy offense. He shows very good focus and does a nice job locating the ball to go up and get it. Maclin has above average hands and won’t drop too many. He is unpolished as a route runner and is still developing that aspect of his game. Maclin has a slim frame and has room to add bulk and get stronger. He will need to be more physical to match up better with NFL defensive backs. Maclin carries some minor durability concerns with his past knee injury and some ankle injuries over his career. He had a tough youth growing up and actually moved in with a different family, but he has extremely impressive character. Maclin never appears intimidated and will go over the middle. He is extremely dangerous and versatile weapon who has great experience on kickoff and punt returns.

BOTTOM LINE: Maclin appears to be more of an elite athlete than a receiver at this point in his career, but will continue to learn the nuances and route running of the position – Top 20 overall talent.
