SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Very smart & instinctive runner...Excellent patience, vision, & balance...Tough...Good receiver

WEAKNESSES: Not overly powerful...Slim figure...Lacks elite speed...Lacks a strong anchor...Streaky blocker

OVERALL: Led the NCAA in rushing this past season, Donald Brown redshirted in 2005 and started half of the season in both 2006 and 2007, producing almost identical stats both seasons. He became the full-time starter in 2008 as a junior, missing just one game, and put up phenomenal stats. Brown was the only FBS player to rush for over 2,000 yards this past season and rushed for 18 scores. He has good size and build, but isn’t overly powerful and won’t out-muscle linebackers at the next level. Brown is physical, will welcome contact, and keeps his legs turning to pick up tough yards. He is an extremely smart and instinctive runner who shows excellent field awareness. Brown’s has great vision and patience to hit find the hole and burst to the second level. He has very good balance and runs well between the tackles. Brown is an excellent cutback runner and has quick, agile feet. He shows good endurance and shows the ability to be an NFL every-down back. Brown has shows good receiver intangibles out of the backfield with reliable hands and the ability to create after the catch. He is more quick than fast and is always moving side-to-side in order to pick up more yards, which could hinder him at the next level. Brown doesn’t have a powerful base and might struggle when blocking or in pass protection. He is very aggressive and tough and can take big hits. Brown has good footwork, but can get choppy at times which leads to extra steps and less yardage. Durability is a slight concern.

BOTTOM LINE: Brown isn’t overly fast or powerful, but he works well between the tackles as his best attributes are his patience, vision, and balance to wait for his blocks and burst upfield – early 2nd rounder.
