SCOUTING REPORT
STRENGTHS: Natural athlete...Fluid hips & smooth backpedal...Instinctive & aware...Nice burst & quickness
WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite size & strength...Not very physical...Suspect technique...Inconsistent tackler
OVERALL: A three year starter, DJ Moore wasn’t highly recruited out of high school and came to Vandy as a wideout. He impressed coaches with his raw athleticism as soon as he stepped foot on campus in Nashville and played in every game as a true freshman, including nine starts at cornerback. Moore put his name on the NFL radar in 2007 as a sophomore, earning First Team All-SEC honors as he collected six interceptions – tied for first in the SEC. This past season as a junior, he picked off six more passes to give him 13 career interceptions in just three seasons and earned First Team All-SEC honors for consecutive seasons. Moore is a phenomenal athlete and saw substantial action on offense (recorded two offensive touchdowns) and as a return man on special teams. He lacks elite size and strength, but isn’t tiny either. Moore shows fluid hips and is smooth in his backpedal which gives him excellent recovery speed. He is an instinctive player and always keeps his head on a swivel. He is very aggressive and will sometimes overpursue the play, but needs to be more physical. Moore doesn’t avoid contact, but is a streaky tackler and has much room to improve. He played far off the LOS most of his career which is a red flag that his technique needs some tweaking. Moore is a versatile talent and can fit several schemes in both man-to-man and zone coverage. He has excellent durability for playing on both sides of the ball in the SEC for three straight seasons.
BOTTOM LINE: Moore won’t impress everyone with his streaky technique, but he is an excellent athlete who has the raw talent, speed, and quickness to be a shutdown NFL cover corner with some coaching.
