SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Explosive & natural athlete...Quick, fluid hips...Excellent height & measureables...Nice instincts

WEAKNESSES: Strong character issues...Suspect technique...Raw footwork...Needs to improve his tackling

OVERALL: A much travelled prospect, Coye Francies originally began at American River College where he was a two-time All-State selection and the Mid-Empire Conference Defensive Most Valuable Player as a sophomore after leading all players with 11 interceptions. In 2006, he was considered one of the top five JUCO prospects and transferred to Oregon State and appeared in all 14 games, starting in five of them, and serving as the Beavers’ main kickoff return man. Prior to the 2007 season, Francies was pulled over for a routine traffic stop and the police found a gun. Although Beavers’ Head Coach Mike Riley called it out of character for Francies, he has a strict non-gun policy and Francies was dismissed from the program. He resurfaced at San Jose State and sat out the 2007 season per transfer rules. As a senior for the Spartans, Francies started in every game, mostly at cornerback, but also saw time at safety. He led San Jose State with 69 tackles on the season and second in interceptions with three. Francies looks the part and has outstanding height and measureables. He is a phenomenal natural athlete with quick fluid hips to turn and run. Francies needs to improve his overall technique and backpedal for the next level. He shows nice instincts, but like his technique, he is very raw at this point of his career. Francies shows the willingness to throw his body around and tackle, but needs to be more physical and show better tackling fundamentals vs. the run.

BOTTOM LINE: Although he has some character issues to be answered, Francies is one of the fastest risers in this draft because of his measureables, athleticism, and raw ability to be a starting NFL CB.
