OVERALL: A four year starter, Clint Sintim redshirted in 2004 and then started 49 consecutive games, never missing a game over his career. His nine sacks as a junior led the nation among linebackers and second on the team behind current Rams DE Chris Long. In 2008 as a senior, Sintim was named to the All-ACC Second Team and led the Cavaliers in tackles for loss (12.5) and sacks (11.0). He is a versatile talent who was a pass rush linebacker in a 3-4 defensive set at Virginia, but also dropped back into coverage. Sintim is an explosive tackler and showed excellent burst to attack the LOS and the ballcarrier. He has fantastic athleticism and has excellent range. Sintim shows nice agility and acceleration to play all over the field, but will have trouble in his backpedal and doesn’t have fluid hips to be consistent in coverage. He shows suspect instincts and awareness and might be one of those linebackers who “sees ball-gets ball.” Sintim has deceiving strength and power and has strong hands to shed blocks. He works best with the play in front of him and is always running downhill. Sintim is a reliable tackler and hits very hard. He shows good form technique and won’t miss a lot of tackles. Sintim plays with a great motor and is always on the move, looking for someone to hit. He might not fit in every defensive scheme as he only knows the 34 look, but has the athleticism and tackling ability to find a home somewhere in the NFL.
BOTTOM LINE: Sintim, who has excellent experience in the ACC and is best suited in a 3-4 defense where he can roam free, is suspect in space and works best at the LOS when he can attack the play.
