SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Excellent athleticism & quickness...Tough & aggressive...Nice cover technique...Nice instincts

WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite speed...Will struggle to recover when beat...Average tackler...Durability concerns

OVERALL: A three year starter, Cary Harris had an under-the-radar type of career at Southern Cal, but was one of the most consistent players on the Trojans’ stellar defense. He was considered a blue-chip prospect out of high school and saw the field as a true freshman in 2005. Harris became a starter as a sophomore and earned Honorable Mention All-Pac 10 honors the past two seasons as a junior and senior. He tied for the team-lead in interceptions in 2008 with three, giving him five for his career at Southern Cal. Harris is a fluid athlete with smooth hips and the ability to turn and run downfield. He has average speed, but very good quickness. Harris has NFL measureables and shows nice length. He shows considerable toughness and throws his body around. Harris is a good, but not great tackler despite showing excellent effort. He shows above average cover technique and looks natural dropping back. Harris has some durability concerns as he had arthroscopic surgery on both ankles before 2008 spring practice and also missed time with a separated shoulder. He has good size, but needs to get stronger and add bulk to his frame. Harris plays with very good instincts and shows the awareness need to play the position at the next level. He works best with the play in front of him, but does have enough football speed to stick with receivers downfield. Harris has inconsistent ballskills, but does a nice job getting his head turned around to make a play on the ball.

BOTTOM LINE: Harris isn’t a household name despite playing on a talented USC defense, but shows the unpolished intangibles to be a future NFL starter with his speed, ballskills, and football instincts.
