SCOUTING REPORT

STRENGTHS: Very good size & strength...Power running style...Breaks tackles...Nice balance & vistion...Tough

WEAKNESSES: Lacks elite speed...Average college production...Situational player...Some durability concerns

OVERALL: A highly recruited prospect out of high school, Andre Brown attended Hargrave Military in 2004 to straighten out some issues before enrolling at NC State in 2005. He saw substantial playing time early and became the starter down the stretch as a freshman. Brown was part of a running back committee throughout most of his career at NC State and was hindered by nagging foot and leg injuries. He had his best season in 2008 as a senior and showed his value with 29 receptions, good for second on the team. Brown has very good size and is a downhill runner. He lacks elite speed and won’t run an impressive 40-yard dash time, but he has excellent short area quickness and hits the hole hard. Brown looks for contact and will break tackles easily. He isn’t very elusive, but does show a bit of a wiggle when he needs to. Brown has excellent vision and even better patience. He plays with very good balance and has a low center of gravity. Brown lowers his pads and picks up the tough yards, rarely losing yardage. He will contribute in the passing game with soft hands and good awareness for a receiver. Brown has also proven to be an excellent blocker. He is one of those prospects who might have a better pro career than what he achieved in college. Brown does have an injury history and some durability concerns because of the constant contact he welcomes. He has performed very well in pre-draft workouts and has pushed his value to the early second day range.

BOTTOM LINE: Despite his lack of production in college, Brown is a bowling ball-type of runner who shows the short-area quickness, vision, and power to be an excellent situational back in the NFL.
